I was watching Al Jazeera news live on the Japan earthquake yesterday afternoon. The sight of the tsunami devastation in Sendai, Miyagi, and other parts in Northern Japan made my stomach churn... It's heartbreaking reading Twitter as many stranded people in Sendai are tweeting help messages furiously in search of their lost family members.
I have also been keeping watch over the news of the Fukushima nuclear reactors via online news and Twitter. Hoping that the worst-case scenario wouldn't occur.
Here are some photos of the earthquake aftermath, from Boston.com
Please take a moment to donate to the various aid agencies and relief efforts if possible.
I gave to the American Red Cross, but you can now give directly to the the Japan Red Cross, via Google's Crisis Response page.
After doing some more research, I made a second donation to Doctors Without Borders. They are highly rated for transparency and integrity. They do not take earmarked donations for specific disasters; this allows them to move quickly when a disaster happens.
